Biography

Eulalio Bueno Silva, Jr., affectionately known by his peers, collectors and colleagues as Bueno Silva. He was born in Baguio City, Philippines in 1941.

At the young age of five, he began his explorations in the visual arts.  He acquired his degree in (B.S.) Accounting from the Universityh of the East.

His professional career as an artist started in the early 1970s delving into the landscape genre, figurative art works and portraiture.

His claim to prominence was the personal portrait presentation of the late Pope Paul VI during his pontifical visit to Manila in 1970. He also was commissioned to paint the "The Our Lady of the Beaterio" that became the icon of Religious of the Virgin Mary (Manila Marian Catholic Sect dating back from Spanish occupation in the 1600s).  It was desiminated to official postage stamp and logos.

He was also commissioned to paint the portraits of RVM's Mother Generals dating back from Foundress, Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo up to the current Mother General.

He furthered his litany of dignetaries' portraitures of Prince Bolkhia of Borneo, President Marcos of Philippines, Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Don Mariano Laurel and Manila Archibishop Jaime Cardinal Sin.

He emigrated with his family to the United States in 1979 and continued his paintings of notables such as Pope John Paul II, President Ronald Reagan, San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein and John and Steve Baird of Chicago, Illinolis and in 2002 he also painted the portrait of Gen. Paulino Santos now hanging at the General Paulino Santos Museum, Gen. Santos City, So. Cotabato, Philippines.

He resumed his sol Exhibitions in Fredericksburg, Virginia and now residing in Chicago, Illinois.

He is due for his first retrospective exhibition in Manila 2008-2009.

Statement

If anything, transitional, is a vague word for describing a modern artist, but that is precisely what my art has become in term of vision, ideas and drive. I have gone from the visual pleasure and hedonism of Impressionism towards more Abstract Expressionist mode of depicting a more realistic view of life: Passionate & Chaotic. I have become obsessed within the compendium of expressionistic values and the appreciation of one quote vulnerability, that is one's modernity in Art.
